Phil is Australia’s most capped hooker, and has been acknowledged by many rugby commentators as having been the world’s best rugby hooker. Since his retirement, he has built a successful career as a rugby commentator and specialist banker. Phil is committed to several charities and he is in high demand as an MC and keynote speaker.

Phil Kearns played an impressive 67 test matches for Australia, after making his test debut in 1989. He also played in the ‘Rest of the World’ side against the All Blacks for the New Zealand Rugby Centenary celebrations.

Phil was appointed captain of the Wallabies on ten occasions throughout his career – testament to his great ability as a player, coupled with amazing leadership skills, both on and off the field. A man of determination, Phil’s comeback to the Wallaby side after an 18 month battle to overcome Achilles and knee injuries, was proclaimed as a symbol of his quality as an enduring athlete.

A tenacious competitor, Phil Kearns epitomised the new breed of Australian sportsmen displaying remarkable talent, ability and determination. Despite setting himself exceptionally high standards in all of his pursuits, Phil remained, throughout his playing career, the consummate team member. His candid wit and outgoing personality made him popular with team mates, supporters, media and even opponents. This popularity has continued post rugby, through his media, business and other charitable commitments.

Phil Kearns capped off his rugby career by playing an important part in the Wallabies World Cup win in 1999 – this was his third world cup campaign.

Since his retirement, Phil’s career has remained hectic and diverse. He works with the specialist banking firm Investec, and commentates with Fox Sports. He also maintains commitments with numerous charities. At home, Phil has four young children, which keep both him and his wife, Julie, on the run.
