 As a football coach, Tommy's achievements include: 

  • Coaching 4 AFL teams: Richmond, Collingwood, Geelong and the Sydney Swans.
  • Being 1 of only 5 coaches to have coached over 500 AFL games (the other four being Jock McHale, Allan Jeans, Ron Barassi and David Parkin)
  • Making 10 grand finals, resulting in 4 Premierships and a tied Grand Final.
  • Guiding Collingwood from wooden spooners to tie in the Grand Final during his first year as Collingwood coach.
  • Taking the Swans from 2nd bottom to 2nd top, 2 years running during his 3 years with the Sydney Swans, and achieving a 70-75% win record during this time.
  • Never being beaten as coach of the Victorian State Teams.
  • Coaching both NSW and Queensland in successful football carnivals.
  • Only once in 22 years having a team finish lower than 7th position.
  • Having 18 players coached by Hafey become AFL coaches.

Now reporting in the media with ABC Radio 3LO and Sport 927, Tommy also writes for Inside Football.  As a corporate speaker his clients include Australia Post, General Motors, Cadbury Schweppes, Safeway, Brambles, Ford and Red Rooster.
