Steven Bradbury's victorious Olympic gold win in speed skating has been described by some as lucky - in fact, it took a lot more than just luck. Strategy and planning were also key ingredients in his success. Four Olympic campaigns and 12 years of hard slog resulted in an Olympic Bronze in 1994, 111 stitches in his leg and in 2000, a broken neck. 18 months later that same neck was supporting Australia's first Winter Olympic Gold Medal.

The story leading up to this achievement is what makes Steven Bradbury's presentation so memorable and unique, touching a chord with people from all walks of life. It is is a prime example to all that if you 'stick it out' you too can be the last man standing.

About Steve Bradbury:

Steven Bradbury's story is one of pure strength and determination in pursuit of Olympic Gold. He is a four-time Olympian, having competed in Albertville (1992), Lillehammer (1994) where he was part of the 5000-metre speed-skating relay team that won bronze, then Nagano (1998) followed by his Gold medal win in Salt Lake City (2002).

In Montreal, 1994, a race accident left Steven impaled on a skate with a cut so extreme he lost four litres of blood and required 111 stitches. He was lucky to survive. In 2000, Steven fractured his neck in a training accident.  He had four bolts drilled into his head to secure a brace restricting the movement of his neck.  Not satisfied he had skated his best, Steven resolved to stick with the sport he had dedicated 10 years of his life to.

Dubbed 'the luckiest gold medalist', Steven won fans the world over for the honesty and humility he showed after his win.  He saw his victory as a reward not for one race, but for a decade of hard work, commitment and sacrifice. 

While Steven is no longer an elite competitor on the ice, he continues his success. He operates a business making custom speed skates which lead the way in international competition - RBC exports custom speed skates and cycling shoes to 19 countries around the world.

Steven is one of Australia's most well-known Olympic Champions and adds the celebrity angle to any event.
