Brendon Julian

Getaway Presenter & Ex-Cricketer

Former Australian test cricketer Brendon Julian spent most of 2003 travelling the globe in his first year as a reporter on Getaway. In 2004, he continues globetrotting for Australia’s favourite holiday program.

The cricket all-rounder from Western Australia retired from the game in 2001 to concentrate on his television career.

Before joining Getaway, Brendon Julian was a presenter on the travel program, Postcards WA and Just Add Water, a watersport and activity series.

Born in Hamilton, New Zealand Brendon Julian moved with his family to Port Hedland in far-north Western Australia when he was seven. ‘It was a huge shock moving from the green grass of New Zealand to the red dust of Port Hedland,’ he said.

Brendon started playing cricket seriously at boarding school in Perth. He spent a season at the prestigious Australian Cricket Academy before joining the Western Warriors.

He played seven tests for Australia and 25 one-day internationals and was part of our 1999 World Cup-winning team.

Brendon Julian is well accustomed to travel, having played in the West Indies, India, South Africa, Ireland and Scotland. ‘So many international cricketers travel the world without actually seeing much. All they see is the hotel rooms, the grounds and the functions. I love exploring the world with Getaway,’ he said.

Admitting he is a bad cook and that his oven has never been used, Brendon Julian went into partnership in a gourmet fish and chip café in Subiaco so he could mix business with pleasure.

Brendon Julian lives with his wife Suzanne and young daughter in Perth.
