John Brogden has facilitated change and success in business and public life. The youngest person to lead the Opposition in NSW, his professional and personal story has been well documented, including his traverse through the highs and lows of life, managing depression and at one stage attempting suicide.

A passionate and charismatic speaker, John Brogden is an outstanding advocate for mental illness. He shares his experiences of depression and suicide with honesty and bravery and challenges the common misunderstandings of living with a mental illness.

In business and public life, John Brogden has led a range of organisations. By setting clear directions, committing to strategy, establishing responsibilities for his teams, and giving them the authority and resources to deliver and vigorously pursue outcomes, he has facilitated success.

At the helm of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), John increased membership to 40,000 (the largest director institute in the world), ensured the highest standards in governance education were maintained, improved member services and significantly increased the organisation's profile and advocacy.

As CEO of the Financial Services Council (FSC) he broadened the policy agenda, increased the Council's influence with Government and improved the public profile of the financial services industry in Australia.

As CEO of Manchester Unity from 2006 to 2008, he revitalised a $250m company and drove a merger with Australia's third largest health insurer HCF, setting a record price for a private health insurance company.

John has pursued his passion for public service as the Chairman of charitable organisations providing services in suicide prevention, mental health, care for the elderly and Catholic education.

In 2002 at the age of 33, he became the Leader of the Opposition in New South Wales after entering Parliament at the age of 27. In this role, he drove change to establish strong team discipline and transparency.
