MC, host & former rugby league star

Matty Johns' great comedic wit, illustrious sporting career and passion for entertaining audiences initially led to him hosting his own show, The Matty Johns Show, on Channel Seven and, more recently, becoming a member of the Grill Team on Triple M.

Matty has joined the Grill Team's regular hosts, NRL veteran Mark 'MG' Geyer and Australia's biggest sports fan, Gus Worland, to provide an entertaining insight daily on the hottest news, the latest in sport combined with the best rock music.

Described as "the most brilliant mind in Rugby League," Matty has a quick-witted humour and provides a whole new insight to the world of NRL as a former great and media commentator on the sport. He is also highly sought after as a corporate MC.

He is as talented in front of an audience, a camera or behind the desk as he was on the field. Matty has played eight tests for Australia, appeared in films, written books and was a commentator on The Footy Show for eight years.

About Matty Johns:

After nine seasons with the Newcastle Knights and one season each with the Wigan Warriors and Cronulla Sharks, Matthew was forced into early retirement because of a recurring shoulder injury.

His uncanny combination with brother Andrew 'Joey' Johns during the 1990s spearheaded many a Knights victory... and one they will always remember is their victory over Manly in the 1997 ARL grand final. During their time together at Newcastle, the Johns brothers established themselves among the game's finest all-time best five-eighth-halfback combinations ... right up there with the likes of Wally Lewis and Allan Langer, Brett Kenny and Peter Sterling, Laurie Daley and Ricky Stuart.

Matty Johns played almost 200 first grade games - including an ARL Grand Final victory in 1997, eight Tests for Australia and four State of Origin matches for the NSW Blues. While his career has side-stepped into television and books, his love for the game of rugby league is still as passionate as ever. Following the end of his playing career, Matty went on to commentate on rugby league and was a pivotal member of The Footy Show for eight years. But his first foray into entertainment was in 1999 in the low budget film, In Search of the Holy Grail, in which he introduced his character Reg Reagan.

In 2004, Matty released Reg Reagan's This Is My Life (Pan Macmillan). In 2008, he released his second book, From The Sheds (HarperCollins), a hilarious look behind the scenes of rugby league.

These days you will find him helping to develop junior players as coach of an under 13 and under 16 local side.
