Emma Alberici, Finance and Business Journalist

Emma Alberici joined the ABC in 2002 as presenter of its morning business television news program, Business Breakfast. During her five years at the ABC she has presented every television news program as well as The 7.30 Report where she is now Finance Editor responsible for the business content of the ABC’s flagship current affairs program.

Emma is often also called upon to provide financial commentary on various radio chat shows.

After completing a bachelor degree in Journalism and Economics at Deakin University, Emma started her career as a copy person at the Herald Sun where, under the guidance of columnist, Terry McCrann she rose through the ranks to become personal finance and Small Business Editor.
In 1993, Emma was invited to join the Nine Network’s Money show. Emma spent close to ten years at Channel Nine where she reported for Business Sunday and A Current Affair as well as helping to launch The Small Business Show. That program spawned three of the highest selling business books on the market and all were written by Emma.

Emma has twice been a finalist in the Walkley Awards for journalism. Both nominations were for investigative reports, the first being her report on the death of a patron at Star City Casino in 1998. It was Emma’s reports surrounding that event, including exclusive interviews with witnesses, family and friends, that prompted a police integrity commission inquiry.

Then in 2001, Emma was nominated again for uncovering the Tax Office’s shoddy treatment of taxpayers during the investigation and later prosecutions for tax evasion resulting from mass marketed schemes.

Emma can currently be heard on ABC Radio’s current affairs program, AM, The World Today and PM.
